I dont know about aftermarket car stereo's, but I do know that there are a few makes out there that have the capability you are describing already built in. I drive a Nissan and the upgraded stereo has the capability - its pretty cool and very handy. The USB is in the center console and you can plug and play. It will play most formats except for lossless(MP3, WAV, AAC). It will also play DVD's(but only if the car is in park).
I know that Honda is introducing the same technology as well. It would not supreise me if aftermarket car stereo's are going in the same direction.
